Up again!

I guess you have to hit the bottom in order to get out...

Only hours after I last updated, Spencer and I seemed to turn a corner.  He was cluster feeding all evening, which I think really helped to up my milk supply even more.  He nursed every 1.5 hours through the night (I put him in bed with us) and he continued to nurse well on Saturday and Sunday.  I weighed him on our infant scale here, so I knew he had gained weight, but hesitated to get too excited until we got the "official" weigh in today.

I'm very happy to announce that between Friday morning and this afternoon (Monday), he gained 4 ounces!  Average weight gain at this age is 6 ounces a week, so we're on track for a good week!  He is still 2 ounces below his birth weight, but I think his pediatrician is less concerned about that than the fact that he wasn't gaining.  She was very happy with his weight gain, and just wants to see him again on Thursday or Friday to do a late 2 week checkup.  If he is still gaining, we won't go back until he is 2 months old (thank the Lord!).

Today, I managed to get a shower while both boys napped, then took Miles to his babysitter's house, took Spencer to his doctor, went to Lexington for my 2 week postpartum checkup with my midwife, then Spencer and I went to see the La Leche League leader in Lexington for a look at his latch.  She was very helpful and said it's actually not that bad!  She gave me some tips and we had a great talk.  She said it was so nice to meet with a mom who has actually studied up on nursing and knows what she's talking about!  She said if I'm ever interested in being a LLL leader, she thinks I would be great at it!  I'm going to try to go to one of the Monday daytime meetings sometime.

After doing all of that, I took Spencer to Whole Foods and Target, looking for a few things.  Didn't find what I went to Whole Foods for (Brewer's yeast), but I did get him an adorable bunny hat at Target.  I feel a little guilty taking just Spencer out with me (without Miles), but I'm just not ready to take them both out yet.  Maybe when it gets a little warmer, I'll attempt it with the double stroller.

Anyway, that's the update for now!  I know there are some people who are following our little story to see how things are going, so I wanted to give some positive news :-)

Awesome! That's pretty sweet you've got a baby scale. I may want to get one of those the next time around. Its really helpful for breastfeeding moms.

I agree, I think you'd be a great La Leche leader. I can't wait to get back to our La Leche meeting. Now that I have my own car I can go, but I missed it last month because something came up.

Great news Krista! And don't feel guilty about leaving Miles with a sitter when you have to do errandy stuff - trust me - he's having more fun at the sitter's than he would have riding along. Sam still begs to go to Grandma's instead of grocery shopping. Hugs! :)

I'm so glad to hear that, and I also think you'd be a killer La Leche League leader! You know, I couldn't find Brewer's Yeast anywhere local either. I ended up giving up, but I wonder if it can be ordered online. Hooray for Spencer gaining weight!!
