Maybe this?

So for the past few months I've been going through lots of options in my head for part-time work.  I know what I don't want - a boring desk job that will keep me away from my family all week.  I know a little about what I do want - something that isn't always the same, something that has to do with my interests, and is flexible.

I entertained this thought some time ago but pushed it away.

I'm thinking about training for and becoming a birth doula.

I feel like it's something that is needed in my area and it's definitely something I would love to do!  I'm hopelessly addicted to childbirth - birth stories, research...I love it all!

I don't know how much of a draw there would be for services in the local area, but maybe it's an "If you build it, they will come" sort of thing.  People who don't know it's available might not know to ask for it.

I would like to do some work with teen moms as a doula, at a drastically reduced rate.  There's a huge need for additional support with unwed teen mothers.

So I don't know...Thoughts?

I think that is a great idea. Also, you should consider becoming a Lactation consultant. DHS has them on their staff, and with you social work background, you would be an excellent candidate. I have a friend in Bristol who does this, I'm sure she would love to talk to you.

La Leche would be a great place to be involved to, in order to find business.

Thanks ladies :-)

I'm looking into it, and very much thinking about doing the distance education training through CAPPA. Altogether the certification process would take about $400-450, so maybe after we get our small refund from taxes.

Of course, we found out tonight that this house is probably going to sell and we have to find a new place to live. So not sure how that will affect things.

Jamie - CAPPA also has lactation consultant training. It's something I might add later, if I do the birth doula training.
