Spencer is already one week old! It's hard to believe that just a week ago, we were in the hospital for our one night stay. He is so beautiful.
This week, my mom and dad were here to help out, and thank goodness they were! As my last post stated, I've been having lots of afterbirth pains, so there have been times when I was in no condition to hold a newborn or do anything with a toddler. Brandon went back to work on Wednesday, and I was simply not ready to be alone with two little boys!
Starting on Wednesday, I've had several opportunities to be alone with them for an hour or two at a time. Today was four hours alone. It has been really helpful to kinda build up to what we will have on Monday, an entire day alone while Brandon is at work. It has worked out pretty well, but I have kept the dogs in their cages (in the garage) so far, I'm not ready to add them into the mix. I've been trying out the Moby wrap during these times and it has been helping a lot.
Spencer went back for another weight check on Thursday and he had gained just over 2 ounces since Tuesday, so the pediatrician was very pleased. The little yellowness he had on Tuesday was also gone - more great news! She does want us to come back on Monday just to make sure he's still gaining about an ounce per day.
Miles got his first haircut on Thursday! It has been a long time coming. Since he turned one, his hair has grown at a remarkable rate and in the past 6-8 weeks has started looking wild and crazy. I didn't want to cut off his curls, but we didn't want to risk it looking like a mullet. So off we went, to Alpha & Omega Salon & Spa in Lawrenceburg to our friend and church member Marcella for his haircut. Here are a few pictures:
iPhone = Great distraction
I was shocked at how well he did! He loved the little fire engine! He wasn't too crazy about the little cape, but after playing a little with Brandon's iPhone, he got over it. We went to the park for a few minutes afterward, since it was such a nice day.
Tomorrow we won't be going to church in the morning (just too many people and too many germs), but we will be going to our LifeGroup meeting at 5:30pm and then the church is giving us a baby shower at 7:00pm. It's so nice of them to give us a shower, considering they just did one about 15 months ago for Miles!
I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to entertain Miles while I'm nursing Spencer. I think he's starting to "test" me a little, when he knows I can't do anything about it. As soon as Spencer finishes, I put him in his swing or some other safe place and sit down for some good one-on-one playtime with Miles, but he is constantly doing "no no" things while I'm nursing - such as climbing on the coffee table, getting out all the DVDs (he knows how to open the cases now), etc. I have a few toys he got at Christmas that I intentionally held back for the first few weeks with Spencer, and I'm hopeful that he will find them as entertaining as I think he will. I find myself getting frustrated with him, and I know that isn't helping. I know he is frustrated as well.
But besides that, we are all doing well. Spencer is eating well, peeing and pooping more than "required" , and is sleeping great at night! Just some details to work out, which I'm sure we will.
