Miles has had a snotty, icky nose for over a week now, then he added a cough to the snot early this week. Since he didn't have a fever and wasn't acting sick, I decided to just ride it out. Well yesterday he woke up in the morning with crusties on his eyes. Thinking it might just be snot from his nose (I'm trying to say "snot" a record number of times), I just kept an eye on...his eyes.
He had a difficult time going down for his morning nap, which is very very unusual now. He wouldn't stop crying, but eventually fell asleep. But when he woke up about an hour later, his beautiful blue eyes had a telltale pinkness to them. Great.
So I had Brandon call the pediatrician (since we have no home phone and my cell phone has terrible service here - convenient, huh?) and arrange for Miles to go to the doctor in the afternoon.
What a miserable experience. We didn't get to see his regular pediatrician (which I expected), had to wait for what seemed like an eternity (with a cranky child needing a nap), and I was getting cranky myself at this point. When we finally saw the nurse, she looked in his ears (that was fun) and announced that he seems to have an ear infection, but not really pinkeye. Fabulous!
So she wrote a prescription for Omnicef and off to the pharmacy we went. That took about an hour, after which I was presented with a $40 bill for the generic prescription - YIKES.
Luckily, 24+ hours later, he seems to be feeling much better! I'm glad he is a good sick kid, but I also wish he would let me know when he isn't feeling great, so that we can get things taken care of quickly!
