I had my 12/13 week checkup yesterday. I hadn't gained any weight, which was nice to hear. I think by this point last time I had gained 8 lbs! Yikes! I have days where I look pregnant, but other days where I just look like I have just been to Krispy Kreme. I'm going to start taking belly pictures at 15 weeks, and just every 5 weeks after that. My blood pressure was also good and low, somewhere like 106/70 or something. I can't remember.
My midwife actually questioned me on whether or not I was eating. I assured her that yes, I am indeed eating! Some days I feel like I can't eat enough, that I'll never get full. Other days I feel like I've only eaten as much as Miles has eaten! I guess it's all evening out. She said it's fine to not have gained any weight at this point and even not gain throughout the whole pregnancy as long as you're eating. I'm fairly certain this won't continue though :-)
The nurse found the heartbeat of the baby, but I couldn't hear it when she did it. She said our hearttones were "right on top of each other." So while she was able to say it was averaging at 176 bpm, I wasn't comfortable because I hadn't heard it. After my midwife and I chatted for awhile, she asked if I had any more questions. I said "Well, just this one thing...I couldn't really hear the baby's heartbeat when she did it." She wanted to make me feel better, so she went and got a Doppler and found it. It took her awhile to locate the little peanut (longest minute or so of my life!), but she found it hiding around my pelvic bone. What a beautiful sound. I wanted to record it with my cell phone but forgot to. Maybe next time.
I go back around 16 weeks for another checkup like this one on Sept. 21st. Then I went ahead and scheduled my 20 week ultrasound - the big one - for Oct. 19th. I'm trying to think of a fun way to announce if we're having a girl or a boy.
I'm feeling pretty good at this point. Still a little nauseated at times, but for the most part, it's not so bad! I think it's helping that Miles is allowing me to sleep at night!
I got to be on a podcast last week - it was so much fun! I recorded via Skype for the PregTASTIC Pregnancy Podcast, an episode all about breastfeeding. If you're interested in listening, click here. You've been warned, however, that it is about breastfeeding, so there's lots of boob talk.
Still waiting to hear about another possibility for maternity coverage. I'm trying not to be too optimistic.
