A letter to my boys

Hello precious sons,

Today while I have a few free moments, I decided to write you a short letter and tell you a little about what you're both up to these days.  We've had a very busy summer already, and you are both tolerating it very well.  I'm so proud of you for being such wonderful little boys.

Miles, you are rapidly closing in on your second birthday!  In two weeks and one day, we will arrive at the beach and you will be two!  You are growing up so quickly and learning so much every day.  Your vocabulary is expanding a great deal, to the point where you are repeating most things we say.  You love to mimic and be mimicked!  You've started playing a little game where you'll move your arm or touch your ear and wait for us to copy you.  Then you'll touch your head, wiggled your toes, and we will do the same. You love it and think it's hilarious.  I love to hear your laugh.

Yesterday, we took a trip to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, where I went many times as a little girl when we lived in Indiana.  I was really looking forward to taking you there, and I wasn't disappointed!  We left home at 8:30am and got there around noon.  After we ate, we spent about four hours at the museum.  You hadn't napped at all but you were awesome and had so much fun!  I think your favorite part was the carousel.  We rode a lion that you had spotted while we waited in line.  You saw it and went "Rawwwwwwrrr!"

Miles, you are such a joy.  What a sweet big brother you are to Spencer.  You always say "Baby!" when you see him and run over to him.  You'll pat his head, or hold his hand, almost always getting down close to his face so he can see it's you.  You gave him your "BayBay" to hold the other day, which I thought was the sweetest thing I'd ever seen.  You have a fantastic sense of humor, and not just the humor of a nearly-two year old.  You're just downright funny.  And smart, and sweet, and cute.  I love you so much!

Spencer, today you are a little over four months old.  I took you to the doctor for your four month "well child visit" and your doctor was so impressed with you!  You weighed 14 lbs. and 11 oz., which was in the 44th percentile for your age.  That probably doesn't mean much to you, but it was a big deal to me!  That means I am making plenty of milk for you and you are growing wonderfully.  You have moved into the 6-9 month clothing size!

She was happy to hear that you are rolling over so much already, sleeping so well, holding your head up, and just generally being awesome!  You had to get shots, which I always hate, but you did really well.  You were sleepy enough that as soon as I helped you stop crying, you fell asleep.  I love to feel the weight of your sleepy little body in my arms.

You have such a sweet, open smile.  A big toothless grin that lights up a room.  You are starting to chew on things, in anticipation of teeth that are soon to appear.  Right now you're chewing on a little butterfly from one of your activity mats next to me in the computer room.  I looked over at you and you grinned at me from behind the butterfly.  Adorable.

Boys, I feel like your lives are going by so quickly.  There are days when I feel like bedtime will never get here and days when I want you to stay up all night and play.  A few months ago, before you were born, Spencer, your dad said to me "Do you sometimes miss Miles when he's asleep?" and the answer is yes.  I miss both of you when you are sleeping.  I love seeing your smiles first thing in the morning.  I am enjoying seeing how your minds are growing and absorbing so much information and how your personalities are becoming your own.  We have so many things to tell you about how God loves you and how we are to live for Him.  Miles, you love your Bible and I hope you continue to enjoy reading it.  We read from the Bible every night before we say our prayers at bedtime.

Don't ever doubt how much Daddy and I love you.  There will be times that you have be disciplined for misbehaving and you will go through phases where you might not think we're very cool, but we will always love you.  To the moon and back, we do love you.
