37 Weeks

Not much to report from my 37 week appointment, which was yesterday.

My appointment was at 4:00pm, and when I checked in, the receptionist leaned forward and said "Have they talked to you about your insurance?"  I said "What do you mean?"  "Well, there's a note here that says you don't have OB benefits on your insurance plan."  I kinda laughed and said "Yeah, I've known that for quite some time and I make payments every month."  I thought it was pretty funny that at 9 months along, they decide to break the news to me.

My midwife was gone for delivery, so I only saw a nurse.  Weight and urine checked, BP checked (more than perfect), baby's heartrate checked (155bpm).  I agreed to wait for about 20 minutes for my midwife to return, since I wanted to discuss my birth plan with her.  Well, less than 2 minutes after the nurse left, she returned.  I'm not sure if she had heard that my midwife would be gone longer than expected, but since I had asked about the baby's position (I can't tell what body part is what...Is he head down?  He could be around my neck for all I know), she said "Why don't we just do a quick ultrasound and check the baby's position then you can come back next week and discuss your birth plan?"

So that's what we did.  I had what I suspect was an off-the-record ultrasound which revealed that Spencer is headdown, but not exactly facing my back like he should be.  He is (or was at the moment) turned and facing my left side, feet and hands all on the left side.  I assume that's not a problem.  It seems like it would be very easy to turn to face the back.

And that was that.  I go back next Thursday.
