E-Mealz Update

I've been asked to share about how E-Mealz is going.  We are on Week 2 of our subscription.

We were out of town over the weekend, so we didn't do our grocery shopping until Monday or Tuesday, so kind of a late start.  I believe we've done 4 of the 7 meals for the week so far.  Tonight we are having a Pizza Night, since we haven't been home together on a Friday night for awhile.  We are using the Any Pizza for $10 deal at Pizza Hut.  I'll also be ordering online and hope to find a coupon code to save a few extra dollars.

This week, we've had an amazingly awesome potato and corn chowder, a chicken dish that I thought was so-so (I have chicken issues though), beef tips and noodles, and last night was meatloaf.  Brandon said last night "I think these are some of the best recipes we've ever used!".  Today he was talking about it even more.  He is using Weight Watchers to lose some weight (not going to my meetings or anything, just using the supplies we have here at home) and e-mealz is great for that - almost all of the dinner entrees are 5-6 Points.  And then the side dishes that are included are low Points as well.  Last night with the meatloaf we had Brown Sugar Apples and Curried Carrots.  Both fabulous.

We still have a chicken breast meal, a chicken/spinach/strawberry salad, and baked catfish left as meals for the week.  I think we'll do the salad for lunch tomorrow instead of dinner.  Salads aren't my favorite, but I can do it for lunch, I think.

We didn't have a lot of food left over this week.  I skimped a bit on some of the amounts it told me to buy, because I didn't want to have an extra 1/2 lb. of ground beef lying around.  I also have been ravenously hungry this week.  However, we made it through the week with leftovers or sandwiches for our lunches.

I had a little more trouble finding some of the items this week, but some of that had to do with my lack of patience.  I went shopping Monday night and our local WalMart was ridiculously crowded.  This week I'll go to the Frankfort WalMart instead.  They have better options.

I had to admit that I'm not sure it's saving us a ton of money each week on our grocery bill, because we're still buying lots of food and some of it is pre-packaged stuff like frozen steamable veggies.  However, it is saving us a ton in terms of the excess dining out (stupid stuff like drive-thrus because I didn't have anything planned).  And the peace of mind it has brought me is priceless.  I know I have a meal planned for my family that is healthy, low in Points, didn't cost a fortune, and didn't take a ton of work to make.

We did the $10 pizza hut pizza tonight too. 1/2 Veggie Lovers 1/2 Hawaiian. And the best part is that we managed to leave 1/2 in the fridge for tomorrow! (this is a rare event for us). :) I really like the hand tossed crust at pizza hut.
